It Just Shows That I Ate Too Much...

A funny thing that I forgot to add to the Christmas recap is everyone's (including mine) anxiousness for me to start showing. I'm in my 11th week so I'm not really showing, I just have a little "pooch" that can likely be more attributed to holiday eating and water retention (sorry, it's part of pregnancy!) than the baby. I guess it's mostly my own fault because I wore rather loose sweaters and my Be Band much of the holiday but when my family member exclaimed that, "Oooh! You're starting to show!" I realized that maybe I should slow down a little on the eats. Thankfully, my parents gave me an Air Walker for Christmas and I plan to hop on that bad boy and walk it out!

Christmas Recap

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I know we did. We started celebrating the evening of the 23rd and kept right on going through the 26th with a total of five "Christmases" (four rounds with Troy's family and then one with mine). We got all kinds of awesome things and truly felt spoiled. Course, everyone was quick to remind us that this was the last year where we would get any gifts for us or attention because next year it would be all about the baby! :)

The other big highlight of the season was all of the eating. Just in time, my Mom bought me a Be Band. This is a handy little band that you pull up over your normal pants when you can no longer button them (or they're just a little uncomfortably snug when buttoned). I found it to be a lifesaver what with all the eating! Everyone else seemed pretty jealous of it and I had a few (non-pregnant) people who honestly were asking me where I got it so they could get one.

So all in all, it was a fun time, good food and great to visit with family. My only complaint is that it is always too short and over too soon!

A few of my favorite things...

My favorite thing so far about being pregnant is that it makes it okay to unbutton your pants after eating. Or before...like when you first put them on...

Also, my MOST favorite thing is my husband, who turns 31 today!! Now he can't say he's the same age as me like he's been doing for the past two days. Yup, he's officially IN his 30s. Happy Birthday Troy!! :)

Not a Rorschach test

Just in case you can't interpret the below picture (i.e., you're a dude), the baby is the blob just right of center. Its head is at the top. There were better images while the doctor was actually doing the sonogram and you could see its little heart beating! :)

Also, the answer to everyone's number one question...yes, I feel fine. I know, I know...all you ladies who have struggled with "morning" sickness probably hate me but I really have felt pretty good so far. I'm just hoping (knock on wood) that since I'm into my 9th week that that means I will continue to feel good. Here's hoping!

Early Birthday Present

In the five-and-a-half years that Troy and I have been married, we've had lots of exciting things happen. We've lived in AZ, VA, NY and NC. We've survived a deployment and unemployment. Now we've built a house and have settled down a bit more. But I think our biggest adventure so far (and by far!) will be this:

This is our first picture of Baby Benton. We are 9 weeks along and our due date is July 18, 2010. We're very excited! :) I'm planning to start updating this blog a lot more to keep people in the loop so feel free to bookmark it come back for a visit to get updates.

Looking A Little Sketchy

So as most of you know, almost as soon as we moved into our house, I became unemployed (hope our lender's not reading this!). And since Troy is just back from Afghanistan, his work hasn't really geared up just yet. So here we are, living in our new house, buying all this new furniture, making trips to Wal-Mart, Lowes and various other stores and coming back with large bags of things for the house all the while not really having much income or us really working. And since they're building next door to us, we're constantly seeing the neighborhood GC, Jimmy. He's a super nice guy and drops by every now and then to see how we are and if we need anything and to give us a heads up about the progress next door. But it seems lately that every time he comes by, we're here. You know, just hanging out...and usually in our jammies (yes, it's a bit embarrassing). This happened again today while Troy and I were in the office, shredding piles & piles of papers (hey, we've been moving for the past 4 years and haven't really had a chance to clean out our personal files). But I mentioned to Troy that we probably seem a little sketchy. I mean, here we are, not working yet acting like we have income and we're shredding piles of paper and have a garage full of computer stuff. That's not weird at all, right??

Home...At Last

Today was a very exciting day for us...we became first-time homeowners!! Yes, after nearly 5 years of marriage, we are finally settling down in our first true home. We love it! Not to say that we didn't enjoy wandering around the US for the past few years. That was a great experience that was truly important for the both of us and gave us many great opportunities and even greater friends. But there's just something about buying your first home. We feel so grown up (finally)! And I'm sure our families are happy to have us back in NC. In fact, they've already started in on the grandkids spiel. One thing at a time... But we will be moving this weekend and can't wait to get to hang out with Raleigh/Durham peeps on a regular basis again. So drop on by if you're in the area!
